Umami Ramen is the brainchild of our chief creator, Peecoon Allen. Born in Thailand, Peecoon grew up like many little girls in her village expecting to take part in the cooking process for the family. "That meant I had to do things like pick herbs from the garden, pounding peppers into a paste, cleaning vegetables or bringing water from the well (yes, I did not have running water). This training began as soon as she could walk and talk. "I remember riding water buffalo's with my cousins to take them out into the field to feed, now we call them grass fed. The memory of foraging for mushrooms with my grandmother or walking the rice fields are things that you can't get from a book. When I came to America that training continued in my mother's kitchen. We cooked every meal at home and going out to eat had better be something truly, truly special. My mother taught me a lot about cross culture cooking. She cooked from taste, sight and instinct". Umami Ramen is the result of this traditional, fundamental way of cooking. We welcome everyone to try our deliciousness.
